We know it’s possible to extend the range to EVs via a solar roof, but it’s not really enough to be worth the cost.
Hopefully, as technology improves and costs decrease, this will become more common in the future, but it will take some time.
This Tesla Model 3 owner has not permanently attached solar panels to the roof of his car.
Instead, to see how it worked, he put them on top of the car.
This obviously won’t work while driving.
However, if you are going camping and your car will be resting for an extended period of time without access to a charger, then this trick will work.

There are a few cars available with solar roofs, but they are mostly a novelty rather than a useful thing.
For example, when Hyundai completely redesigned the Sonata Hybrid for 2020, it added a sunroof as an option.
It’s only in the upper limited segment, which costs about $8,000 more than the base model, and can add about two miles of range per day.
Since the Sonata Hybrid isn’t a compact hybrid—Hyundai got rid of the Sonata PHEV as part of its 2020 redesign—the extra range really means some savings in fuel costs.

a Tesla with a solar roof , but there are companies that are testing the concept.
