Several competing cars accompanied us on our journey, and the Toyota Corolla Hybrid achieved 56 mpg in the same test, and the larger Hyundai Sonata Hybrid than the Elantra scored 51 mpg. It uses a 2.0-liter in-line four-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic torque converter, but the Sonata’s powertrain wasn’t as smooth as the Elantra in our experience.
Balance and braking in the Elantra Hybrid

The blue model starts at $24,555, but it lacks many of the finer details we enjoyed in our limited test car, which came in at $29,260. Given that the non-hybrid Elantra Limited ($26,455) produces 201 horsepower and the turbocharged Elantra N Line ($25,105), I think it’s hard to justify buying a hybrid version of the Elantra to save ten miles on The gallon is not a sufficient advantage.
